British Grand Prix provides most exciting race of season with crashes, rain and a home win

More drama in six laps than six months

Well that was ruddy exciting

Firstly let’s get the big stuff out of the way  as Lewis Hamilton won a thrilling British Grand Prix in a race that had pretty much everything F1 fans want from their sport.

Firstly Felipe Massa got the jump on the two Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg with a blistering take off

At the next turn there was a major shunt that took out the cars of Jenson Button, as well as Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado, who joined him watching from the pit lane for the rest of the race.

The safety car was subsequently brought out with Felipe Massa leading the way for the first half of the race, until what every F1 race needs to make things just that little bit more exciting, rain.

That resulted in a mad scramble for a change of tyres and team tactics that would see Hamilton change his tyres to intermediate, and with some clever team orders from the pitlane and timing their pits correctly, the Englishman took the lead with a handful of laps to go.

Nico Rosberg tried his best to deny a first home win at Silverstone since the era of Damon Hill but in the end Hamilton took the chequered flag in style.
