Chael Sonnen heroically eats slap from Jake Shields after grappling contest

He wasn't the intended target

Jake Shields

Jake Shields sure likes slapping AJ Agazarm.

It only seems like yesterday when former Strikforce and EliteXC champion Jake Shields was slapping AJ Agazarm in the face at Polaris 3.

The former UFC star, who trains with Nate Diaz, infamously refused to shake his arch-rival’s hand after grappling to a draw which prompted Agazarm to shove him. Shields didn’t take too kindly to his mark of disrespect being met with… well, another mark of disrespect, so he decided to bust out the ol’ Stockton Slap.

The two needed to be separated and Shields proceeded to accuse his opponent of eye-gouging during his post-fight interview. Once a slap gets thrown, surely everyone gets put on notice and measures are put in place to ensure this type of thing never happens again.

It turns out that sometimes people don’t learn from their mistakes as Shields and Agazarm went at it again at the recent Submission Underground 6 event.

Even though there was no match scheduled between the two, Shields decided to call out Agazarm after his victory over Gilbert Burns in the main event. Agazarm entered right on queue, squared up to Shields and all hell nearly broke loose.

Bellator star Chael Sonnen, the promoter for the event, got in between the two grapplers as Shields attempted to slap Agazarm in the face again. It appeared as though Sonnen took one of Stockton’s finest for the team in the melee.

What the hell, Shields? What’s with all the aggression? Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed or something?

Ok… fair enough.
