You can’t pull the wool over Brian Stann’s eyes.
If Conor McGregor’s recent comments weren’t enough to convince you that the superfight against Floyd Mayweather isn’t in the works, then have a read of what Stann has to say on the topic.
The former WEC champion, ex-Marine and current UFC colour commentator gave his take on the crazy rumour on his SiriusXM show Toe-2-Toe and unsurprisingly, he’s not buying into the story.
“There’s no legitimacy behind that, folks. There’s nothing happening between Mayweather and McGregor. It is not going to happen.”
“Right now, they are trying to hit Nate Diaz’s number and get him to do that rematch. If you think maybe Nate Diaz is being too expensive for the UFC, do you really think they’re going to do a revenue share with Floyd Mayweather? There’s no way for Conor McGregor to get out of his contract to go box, it’s just a dumb topic.”

Last week, Fox Sports shock jock Colin Cowherd made the sensational claim that his “intel” is that the MMA/boxing crossover bout is going to happen in September. Stann pointed out that Cowherd has nothing to back up these claims, but understands that a certain aspect of human nature has left some people captivated by the rumours.
“Some of you may enjoy it. Watching TMZ at night and things like that, and living your life through the deeds of other people and some of the craziness that goes on in the Hollywood world or with all these famous people. You get shows like this, Cowherd’s show and Smith and Bayliss, shows like that I can’t stomach, I can’t stomach.”
Stann has pleaded fight fans to be wary of these tall claims and to weigh everything up before going out and buying plane tickets to a non-existent fight.
“Call me old school, call me boring, call me what you will, but they’re just not my flavour. They could all be wonderful human beings, I have never met them. But, before you read something and you read those quotes and start thinking or maybe buying tickets like he is for some date in September, let me be the one to tell you that there is no truth to that whatsoever. There is nothing in the works.”

Stann reckons there are only a couple of different options on the table for the UFC featherweight champion’s next fight and neither of them will take place inside a boxing ring.
“Right now what’s in the works is Conor McGregor talking on Nate Diaz, that’s in the works. If that doesn’t happen, he’s probably going to fight the winner of Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo and defend the 145 lb title that he won many months ago. That’s that.”
However, if by some miracle McGregor vs Mayweather actually happens, Stann has pretty much the same prediction as everyone else – Mayweather would outbox McGregor, but if it were an MMA contest McGregor “would kill him”.Â
