He said he'd be interested...

Just imagine the pay-per-view potential.

It goes without saying that Conor McGregor’s first foray into the professional boxing arena will break records in terms of pay-per-view revenue, gate receipts and social media interest.

As if the August 26 fight card, which will culminate in a meeting between McGregor and 49-0 boxing great, Floyd Mayweather, wasn’t interesting enough, the UFC heavyweight champion of the world wants to get involved.

What we know thus far is that the evening of boxing will be primarily promoted by Mayweather Promotions, rather than the UFC, but Stipe Miocic is still throwing his hat in the ring.

Miocic, the defending UFC heavyweight champ, has officially called out Anthony Joshua for a spot on the undercard of the most intriguing combat sports spectacle of all time.

Miocic had previously expressed an interest in challenging the reigning IBF, WBA (Super) and IBO heavyweight champion.

“If the fight happens, me against Joshua would be a great fight,” Miocic recently said during an appearance on The MMA Hour. “I think I’d surprise a lot of people, I think it’d be an amazing fight … let’s do it! He’s a great guy. He’s tough, he’s a champion for a reason. I think I’d give him a run for his money.”

It’s not like Joshua would outright turn down the chance to compete on a stage as bright as the one which will precede the meeting of the two biggest superstars in combat sports history.

Recently, during Mayweather’s promotional tour of the United Kingdon, ‘AJ’ expressed an interest in fighting prior to McGregor vs. Mayweather.

“Get me on the undercard!” Joshua said.

“Why not? That’s big. It’s big. That’s legendary shit. That fight will go down in history.”

Don’t get your hopes up, folks, because it’s looking ever more likely that Joshua is set for a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko next.

But Miocic wants Joshua and Joshua is open to fighting on the undercard of McGregor vs. Mayweather.

And when you look at the main event for the August cross-sport meeting, stranger things have most definitely happened.
