Having shot 66 yesterday, Lowry fell a little behind his own pace by carding a three-under 67 on Saturday but managed to close the gap at the top to just two shots.
The 2009 Irish Open champion put together five birdies to put himself clear in second place, two shots behind joint leaders Justin Rose and Jim Furyk going into the final day.
It makes for a thrilling finish to the tournament in which the winner walks away with $1,570,000.
