Padraig Harrington burns it up to win first European Tour event in EIGHT years

Is there anything sweeter than a Paddy H win?

Rolling back the years, Paddy H style.

God, we love it when Padraig Harrington does good stuff on a golf course and on Sunday the Oceanico Victoria Clube de Golfe was the setting for a special Harrington afternoon.

The 45-year-old Dubliner shot a closing round 65 to claim the Portugal Masters by a single shot from Andy Sullivan. Amazingly it was his first victory on the European Tour since the 2008 PGA Championship and his first win on European soil since the 2008 British Open. His last regular tour victory was the 2007 Irish Open.

His last win came in the 2015 Honda Open, when he memorably won a Monday play-off.

The three-time Major winner was in superb form in the fourth round, handing in a blemish free card, with six birdies for a six-under 65.

Typical Harrington though, he did not make things easy for himself – having to deal with a manky lie on the 18th.

However he managed to get up and down on the par four, hacking out to five feet, to avoid the torturous play-off you almost come to expect from a great Harrington performance.

Nice way to win your 15th European Tour event and pocket a cheque for €333,000.
