Tipp hurling club appeal result after bizarre penalty shootout mistake

SportsJOE

Never heard of this before…

A hurling club are appealing their Junior B county quarter-final defeat after a bizarre set of circumstances in a penalty shootout.

After a 1-22 draw, Moyne-Templetuohy were only permitted to take four of their five penalties against Solohead having put down the wrong number of players they wanted registered on their list.

A change was not granted by the referee, and though both teams scored only one penalty – Moyne-Templetuohy one from four, and Soloed one from five – Solohead came out on top in the sudden death.

The Irish Examiner report that the player who Moyne-Templetuohy wanted to take the additional penalty was on the pitch during extra-time, so within the rules of inclusion.

Solohead are now alongside Carrick Swans, Silvermines and Thurles Sarsfields in the semi-finals of the Tim Maher Cup.
