Nothing like an arbitrary list to get people up in arms.
Tyrone legend Peter Canavan took it upon himself to rank the ten most influential footballers in the country in his Irish Independent column yesterday and it proved to be pretty divisive.
He picked Michael Murphy at number one, but the omission of Paul Flynn surprised many people.
Canavan also rates Kieran Donaghy very highly, picking him as the fourth most influential player in the country, in his eyes.
Here is Canavan’s ranking:
1. Michael Murphy
2. Diarmuid Connolly
3. Aidan O’Shea
4. Kieran Donaghy
5. Conor McManus
6. Stephen Cluxton
7. Frank McGlynn
8. Colm O’Neill
9. Keith Higgins
10. Paddy McBrearty
The inclusion of McBrearty is a nice reward for the Donegal man’s stellar form since the start of the championship but besides that, there aren’t too many shocks. James O’Donoghue and Flynn – who has won four Allstars in-a-row – might feel a bit aggrieved at missing out though,
