As if they needed any more help, Dublin’s hero from 2016 final is back

The depth in this Dublin team is frightening

Another reason for Tyrone to be scared.

If Dublin fans had any fear that their side had lost its spark in 2017 them fears have now been put to rest.

Even if they topped the National League it wasn’t as comfortable as Dublin fans had expected with three draws to their name.

The undefeated streak went on and then it was snapped by Kerry in the Allianz League final and that may have ended up being the best thing to happen to them.

Since Championship has come around Jim Gavin’s side have looked nothing short of unstoppable, the rise of Con O’Callaghan has been a major addition, the seamless transition of Jack McCaffrey back into the squad and now the squad have a clean bill of health.

There were injury concerns coming into this year’s championship campaign. Michael Darragh Macauley looked like he would be out for the season, Paul Flynn was nowhere to be seen, Philly McMahon even went missing with injury a long with a couple of others.

All of them are back now, the sole injury concern coming into the quarter final against Monaghan was that of Cormac Costello, he had injured his hamstring in a hurling match with his club Whitehall Colmcille.

Well, according to the42 last year’s All-Ireland hero is back too.

Speaking this morning the Dublin manager said:

“Cormac Costello is back now as well, he’s worked really diligently at his return to play. (We have a) full squad to pick from. Everyone is fit.”

Costello, son of Dublin GAA CEO John, announced himself to the footballing world when he came off the bench in last year’s All-Ireland replay against Mayo when he scored three points from play late on in the game.

However, he may find it increasingly difficult to get on the pitch with the strength in depth of the squad.

Diarmuid Connolly is now available for selection after serving his 12-week ban and it hard to see Jim Gavin making wholesale changes after his side have rarely put a foot wrong during their championship campaign.
