Marc Ó Sé didn’t look happy with Sean Cavanagh’s role in controversial red card

Niall McIntyre

No love lost.

Moy sucker-punched Kerry’s An Ghaeltacht to book their place in the All-Ireland intermediate football semi-final, where they will face Roscommon side Michael Glaveys, who defeated Wexford’s Kilanerin on Saturday.

All eyes were on Thurles, however, as Sean Cavanagh’s Moy took on Marc Ó Sé’s An Ghaeltacht in the heavyweight clash of the day between the Kerry and Tyrone champions.

The Kingdom outfit led by 0-5 to 0-3 as the game reached injury time, and they looked home and hosed in the heavy Semple Stadium conditions.

Nobody would have begrudged them victory, either. They showed more verve and attacking flair for the full hour, and despite being a man down for most of the second half – they still looked untroubled as the clock ticked towards 60.

Their marauding wing back Brian Ó Beaglaoích lived up to his name with a heroic display, kicking two fine points in the second half.

What happened after the second of his points was undoubtedly a turning point in this game, however. An Ghaeltacht full forward Eanna O’ Concobhair was given his marching orders for his involvement in an off the ball incident that was brought to the referee’s attention by Moy captain Sean Cavanagh.

Kerry legend Marc Ó Sé wasn’t best pleased with Cavanagh’s role in his teammates dismissal, that’s for sure.

A red card soon followed…

An Ghaeltacht remained calm, but then came the sucker-punch, with Moy notching 1-2 without reply in added time, to take this one by 1-5 to 0-6.
