Dr Crokes and Corofin can only meet in All-Ireland final

Niall McIntyre

It’s the final everybody wants to see.

Dr Crokes beat Corofin the last time the teams met and beat them comfortably.

It was double scores in the Gaelic Grounds in the 2017 All-Ireland club semi-final with goals from Gavin O’Shea and Jordan Kiely sealing the deal for the Kerry kingpins.

That was a special Dr Crokes team and they went onto lift the Andy Merrigan Cup a month later when they overpowered Slaughtneil in the club decider.

2-11 to 0-8 read the one-sided scoreline a year and a half ago but chances are it would be a lot tighter were the two powerhouse clubs to meet in the morning.

Draws

Should the both of them keep up the rampant form they’re currently on, it won’t be long before we see them clash again.

That’s because the Munster and Connacht champions are on opposite sides of this year’s draw for the All-Ireland club championships.

The draw for the semi-finals of All-Ireland club championships rotates every year and with Corofin having played Munster champs Crokes in 2016 and Leinster champs Moorefield last year, the Ulster champs are next up in 2018 should they navigate a way past Ballintubber in the Connacht final in two weeks time.

The Leinster champs will then face off against the Munster champs on the other side of the draw, paving the way for a potential Crokes Corofin decider on St Patrick’s day.

The bookies have the reigning champions Corofin as narrow favourites to keep a hold of the title this year with Crokes second favourites at 2/1. Other sides, such as Kilmacud Crokes, Ballintubber or Portlaoise may have something to say about that though.
