Vine: Azerbaijan side crash out of Europe League after dodgy offside decision

Quarabag's last minute winner against Inter Milan was ruled offside, but it looks to be the wrong call

Neil Treacy

This is heartbreaking.

Little-know Quarabag took on Inter Milan this evening, looking for an unlikely win which would have them the first ever side from Azerbaijan to qualify from the Europe League group stage.

And deep in injury time they thought they had achieved the unthinkable, when Richard Almeida’s shot was deflected in off Inter defender Isaac Donkor, sending the stadium into delirium.

But the goal was harshly chalked off for an offside against striker Leroy George, saving the already-qualified Inter’s blushes, and sending Quarabag out of the competition after Dnipro beat St Etienne.

While it’s difficult to make out whether George was level with Donkor or not, the Quarabag striker didn’t touch the bell, making the pill even more difficult to swallow.
