RSPCA deny David Moyes’ claim Kurt Zouma has been offered animal welfare course

‘No plans have been made for animal welfare courses to be undertaken’

The RSPCA have denied West Ham United boss’ David Moyes’ recent comments and insisted that they have not offered Kurt Zouma animal welfare courses.

Moyes was speaking at his press conference on Friday where he suggested that the Frenchman had been offered animal welfare courses by the organisation.

It follows after West Ham confirmed that Zouma had been fined after video footage emerged of him kicking and slapping his pet cat – with the money to be donated to “appropriate animal welfare charity.”

But the RSPCA released an updated statement in which they refuted Moyes’ claim and said that there were “no plans” in place for the defender to be sent on the appropriate courses.

They said: “Our focus remains entirely on our experienced officers carrying out a full and thorough investigation. No plans have been made for animal welfare courses to be undertaken.”

Moyes came under fire for starting the 27-year-old in the Hammers’ game against Watford on Wednesday night despite Surrey Police confirming they would launch an enquiry but he stood by his decision and confirmed he would play against Leicester City on Sunday.

“There are different views whether he should be available. We decided he should. I stand by that,” he said.

“I don’t think a club could have taken action any quicker than they’ve done at the moment. West Ham have done a really good job.

“I’m not condoning him, his actions were terrible. They were diabolical but we’ve chosen to play him and we stand by that.

“He’s incredibly remorseful. Like everybody else, in life sometimes you need a bit of forgiveness. He’s hoping he is forgiven for a bad action.

“We will get him some help. We are trying to do as much as we can as a club, as a team, to help him.”
