Doctor from Cork shares lovely Roy Keane ‘Christmas miracle’ story

SportsJOE

‘I hope Roy Keane knows the huge impact he has had on so many lives. I’m sure this is just one example.’

A small but hugely appreciated gesture from Roy Keane and one that, 20 years on, is getting some love.

With many of us across Ireland and the UK [and, let’s face it, the planet] still getting over the gut-punch of Covid’s ‘Omicron’ strain messing up Christmas plans and making more people ill, a doctor from Cork decided to share a real good news story.

Dr Niamh Lynch may have sensed a weary mood descending on Friday as she jumped on to social media to let us all in on a ‘Christmas miracle’ story that involves the former Manchester United and Ireland captain.

Roy Keane’s Christmas visit

“The closest thing I ever witnessed to a Christmas miracle was facilitated, I think, by Roy Keane,” Dr Lynch began.

“This was 20 years ago and we were looking after a patient who was very, very unwell and it came to a point we weren’t really sure if they were going to make it.

“Unannounced and without any fanfare, Roy Keane came to visit the children’s ward and he gave that child the boost and the energy that they needed to just keep going a little bit more, I think.

“On Christmas Eve, the professor of paediatrics rang me in tears and I feared the worst. But, no, he said that this child was completely better and was going home. So thanks Roy.”

The post by Dr Lynch certainly lifted plenty of spirits when it was first shared, on Friday night, and it has continued to do so all through today.

It has been viewed over 60,000 times and there is a lovely accompanying thread of other sound Roy Keane deeds. Give it a scroll if you need your spirits lifted.
