Luke Shaw probably never thought he was as popular as this.

But the Manchester United defender has been at the heart of a wave of sympathy this week after suffering one of the worst leg-breaks we’ve seen this week in the Champions League.

The former Southampton man is recovering from the incident in Tuesday’s night 2-1 loss to PSV when he suffered the devastating leg-break in a collision with Hector Moreno.

According to today’s Express the Mexican defender is set to visit the left-back in hospital this week as he continues his recovery, while PSV supporters have also shown a serious amount of class to the stricken defender in the last few days.

According to a Dutch website PSVPrimeur.nl PSV fans have sent flowers to the England man in St. Anna Hospital with a spokesperson for a supporters group remarking,

“This is the way you deal with an opponent in professional football.”

Flowers may not help his leg heal any quicker, but it’s still a wonderful gesture that is all too seldom in football these days.
