Manchester United fans fume as Louis van Gaal allows striker to leave on loan

2 strikers left in their first team squad

It has not been a great week for Louis van Gaal.

Manchester United’s failure to score against PSV Eindhoven has seen the manager heavily criticised by many supporters.

While many acknowledge that the team is looking much more defensively assured, one of the main complaints is their lack of goal threat.

Van Gaal started the season with just three recognised strikers in his first team squad: Wayne Rooney, new signing Anthony Martial, and James Wilson.

Wilson, a product of United’s academy, announced himself at the end of the disastrous 2013-2014 with two goals on his debut against Hull City.

Having also scored plenty at Under 21 level, his emergence was one of the reasons the club were believed to have let Danny Welbeck leave for Arsenal last year.

With striking options so limited, it’s been a surprise to many of the Old Trafford faithful that Wilson hasn’t even had a look in.

It’s even more surprising that Van Gaal should choose this week of all weeks to let Wilson leave the club on loan.

In the wake of United drawing a blank against PSV, Wilson has been sent to Brighton – leaving the Red Devils with just two strikers.

Needless to say, it’s a decision that hasn’t gone down well.
