Liverpool enter race to sign 15-year-old wonderkid Martin Odegaard

Ben Kiely

It looks like Liverpool have officially entered the race to sign one of the hottest prospects in world football.

Norway starlet Martin Odegaard is one of the most sought after teenaged footballers in Europe. Despite being a few days shy of his 16th birthday, Odegaard already has three international caps under his belt. Earlier this year, he became the youngest player ever to play in a European Championship qualifier when he made his debut against Bulgaria at just 15 years and 300 days old.

His strong performances for his club Stromsgodset have also saw the likes of  Real Madrid and Manchester United keeping tabs on his development. Now it appears Liverpool, who Odegaard apparently supports, have made their play to land the promising youngster.

The Norwegian wonderkid was given a tour of Liverpool’s grounds today which indicates that the Reds might be readying a bid to sign him. The first team squad and staff were given the day off after last night’s win but Odegaard and his father were given the opportunity to look around Anfield, Melwood and Liverpool city centre.

Liverpool will have their work cut out for them trying to sign the Scandinavian, although they will not have to compete with Chelsea for the 15-year-old’s signature. Blues boss Jose Mourinho has officially declared that he has no plans to enter into a bidding war for Odegaard.

I have heard from him and he can go to 25 clubs. I want to know what club it is going to be, but we will not go into battle with all these clubs.
