‘They were not very good, despite Ronaldo’s performance.’

Gary Neville described Cristiano Ronaldo as “sensational” following Manchester United’s 3-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The 37-year old scored a hat-trick as the Red Devils moved up to fourth in the Premier League table.

It was a sensational return to form by the Portuguese international following his absence from last week’s Manchester derby defeat.

Despite winning the match, Neville described Ralf Rangnick’s side as “not very good.” They surrendered their lead twice before Ronaldo’s 81st-minute winner.

Neville is of the opinion that if Man United hadn’t won on Saturday. The fans would have gone home highlighting how poor their performance was.

“They were not very good, I have to say that. The moments in the game were magical and the fans are absolutely buzzing because they have seen Cristiano Ronaldo and they feel like they’ve seen something special,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“But in terms of performance, if it is Spurs scoring that late goal, United fans will be going home saying: ‘How bad were we today?

“But big moments happen and the big player turned up and ultimately that is send them home happy, but it wasn’t a great performance.”

Neville was full of praise as Ronaldo rolled back the years with his three goals against Antonio Conte’s side.

The former Man United captain highlighted the turn of events that saw his former teammate left out of the squad last Sunday to become a hat-trick hero against Spurs.

“It was a strange game at times in the second half. But obviously, Cristiano Ronaldo was absolutely sensational.

“What a response from last weekend’s poor display but also the situation with him where it looked like he was left out injured.”

Ronaldo has scored 807 goals for club and country which extends his record as the greatest goalscorer of all time.
