Fernandes has had his say

Bruno Fernandes has spoken about his awkward exchange with Manchester United and Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fernandes was filmed walking into the changing room where he greeted Ronaldo with nothing more than a handshake – just days after the 37-year-old conducted an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

In the discussion Ronaldo didn’t hold back as he gave a damning assessment of the state of affairs at United, notably the lack of progression at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

“The progress was zero. Since Sir Alex [Ferguson] left, I saw no evolution in the club. Nothing had changed,” the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said.

“I think the fans should know the truth. I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United.

“But you have some things inside that don’t help (us) reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal… a club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not, unfortunately.”

With the interview out in the air, many presumed Fernandes’ cold interaction with the forward was as a result of the midfielder taking offence to the comments however he has revealed what was actually going through his mind.

Bruno Fernandes sets record straight

The United star shared comments made by João Mário earlier in the day who played down reports of a feud between the two.

He said: “I was in the locker room at that moment, I saw pictures. It was a joke between them because Bruno was one of the last to arrive and Cristiano asked if he had come by boat. It was a joke between them, they play together.”

Bruno Fernandes then responded with a caption underneath which said: There you are, ruining the covers of newspapers.”

Looks like they’re still friends after all…
