Idah left Celtic for Swansea on Deadline Day

Adam Idah has shone a light on the immense pressure he endured at Celtic, admitting he felt “hate” and “torture” during his time with the Scottish giants.
The 24-year-old Republic of Ireland striker left the Scottish champions on Deadline Day to join Championship side Swansea City. Having spent 18 months in Glasgow, Idah initially arrived on loan from Norwich City, and collected two league titles and a Scottish Cup medal with the Glaswegians. However, there is no doubt his highlight was scoring the winner against Rangers in the Scottish Cup Final to claim victory for Celtic over their fiercest rivals.
Despite his contributions, Idah struggled to win over some fans. Reflecting on his spell with Celtic following Ireland’s 2-2 draw with Hungary, Idah spoke honestly.
“It can be tough, you get a lot of hate,” he said. “You might have a bad game and it’s torture. It’s a difficult place up there. But flip it the other way, you’re doing well and it’s the best place ever.
“Celtic is one of the biggest clubs in the world. It’s a really proud moment for me, playing for them… I’ve had some great memories. I’ve got nothing bad to say about the club.
“To score, I think, 20 goals last season coming off the bench, it kind of goes a bit unnoticed. But that’s football. It’s time to move on now and get a fresh start.”
Idah: At first, I didn’t want to leave Celtic
The fresh start emerged quickly for Idah as he was preparing for the first Old Firm of the season when Swansea’s interest emerged. Brendan Rodgers omitted him from the squad for the clash in Ibrox as the move was finalised, and Idah joined up with the Ireland squad shortly after.
“At first, I didn’t want to leave Celtic… But Swansea have a great project… I’m really looking forward to going to Swansea.”
The Irish striker capped off a memorable night by rescuing a point for Ireland with a dramatic late equaliser against Hungary, sending the Aviva Stadium into raptures.
The 2-2 draw not only highlighted Idah’s ability to deliver in big moments but also offered an encouraging glimpse of what Swansea City fans can look forward to in the season ahead.
