Former UFC fighter Bec Rawlings wins bare-knuckle boxing debut

Yep, this is a thing now

Bec Rawlings has taken to her new sport like a duck to water.

In April, Rawlings fell to her fourth consecutive defeat in the Octagon. In May, she was released from her UFC contract. June is only a couple of days old but Rawlings has already returned to winning ways.

On Saturday night, the Australian fighter made her debut on the Bare Knuckle FC card in Wyoming and bludgeoned opponent Alma Garcia into defeat.

Rawlings repeatedly utilised dirty boxing to mark up Garcia’s face before, following a rough second round, doctors ordered an end to the fight while Garcia was sat on the stool.

“I’m the queen of bare-knuckle boxing,” Rawlings said after getting her swollen hand raised.

The 29-year-old entered the UFC through The Ultimate Fighter tournament and scored a pair of wins in 2015 and 2016 but Rawlings gave the MMA organisation no choice but to cut her after dropping four in a row.

While she is young enough to revive her MMA career elsewhere, it sounds like Rawlings has caught the bare-knuckle boxing bug and she’s admitted that she’s keen to do it again.

“It’s great to be able to just let my hands go and showcase my boxing skills,” Rawlings said. “I feel like I outboxed a boxer today.”
