Michael Conlan handles awkward American interview like a champ

Still making a name for himself

Patrick McCarry

Over on this side of the Atlantic, we know who Michael Conlan is and what he is all about.

The Olympic silver medalist is 4-0 in his professional boxing career and fights at Madison Square Garden for the the second time, against Luis Fernando Molina, in the early hours of Sunday morning [approximately 2am Irish time].

The Argentine is a gentle step up from the fighters Conlan has taken on his making his pro debut but he still expects to get the job done within four rounds.

As much as Irish and British boxing fans will know of the Belfast native, Conlan is still making his name in the United States. Being on the undercard of the Vasyl Lomachenko and Guillermo Rigondeaux bout in front of 5,000 fans at MSG will help but one Fight Hub interviewer is going the extra mile.

Conlan smiled and obliged during the three minute chat, below, but some of the questions were pretty basic.

  • Do you prefer to be called Mick or Michael?
  • Who are you fighting?
  • Have you patented your Rio 2016 raised finger salute?
  • Are people always asking for you to give them the middle finger?
  • Where can fans watch the fight?

To be fair to Conlan, he handled each question well. He knows he has not broken America yet but another resounding KO win on Saturday night will certainly propel him in that direction.

They may be asking the ABCs right now but, given time, those questions will surely be about title shots and headline acts.
