There’s nothing us Irish enjoy more than seeing Americans try to explain things that only Irish people do.
Whether it be trying to explain what the ‘craic’ is or trying to understand what the story really is?
Something that fascinates us is the reaction of GAA when it is shown to anyone not Irish and even with Sky broadcasting the sport it has yet to make a splash internationally.
Well, with all eyes on Ireland with their most famous athlete competing in the biggest fight of all time over the weekend, only in Ireland could that be eclipsed by something else. The GAA.
We saw over 135,000 people head to Croke Park over Saturday and Sunday as well as the umpteen times more people that were watching it home it may have proven more popular than when Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor faced off in the T-Mobile Arena.
Zubin Mehenti was speaking Tom Hamilton, who was in the Dublin and asked what the big sporting event was in Ireland that was outdoing the whole MayMac hype.
Speaking on Sunday morning, Hamilton said:
“Well, this afternoon there are the Gaelic Football semi finals. It is Dublin versus Tyrone at Croke Park here. So, this is a huge sport here in Ireland. Yesterday they had the other semi final and Dublin was really a wash with people really looking forward to it but this is being Dublin and also being their home team they are expecting just under 80,000 people to witness what they hope is their team making the final.”
Not a bad effort Tom, not a bad effort at all.
