Carl Frampton takes split decision victory over Scott Quigg in Manchester

A fight of two halves

What started as a Frampton whitewash turned into a proper scrap.

Carl Frampton was coasting towards a pretty straightforward decision victory.

It took a while to light the spark in the bantamweight unification title fight in Manchester as the first few rounds were the very definition of “a cagey affair.”

Frampton, without doing damage, had outscored his way into a significant edge by the time the midway point of the fight rolled around.

But then Quigg decided to fight.

Not only did the Englishman up his output but he also put considerably more power into the upped volume of punches.

Frampton started fading in rounds seven through ten, simply in terms of damage, as Quigg began ripping his shots to the body.

And just when it looked like Quigg had scrapped his way back into the bout, Frampton turned it back on in the 12th and looked to have swayed it.

He did so in all but one judges’ eyes as he took the victory by split decision.
