“It’s over. It’s finished. There’s no doubt about it.”

Kris Boyd declared Rangers title challenge is “over” following Celtic’s 2-1 away win at Ibrox Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The win sends the Hoops six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League. Ange Postecoglou’s side have a superior goal difference compared to their Glasgow counterparts with only six games remaining.

Kris Boyd’s take on the title race.

Boyd was adamant in his verdict at full time as Celtic left Ibrox with all three points.

The Gers had initially taken the lead in the 3rd minute, with Aaron Ramsey scoring his first goal for Rangers. However, Celtic came back to salvage all three points whilst defending “properly” throughout, according to Boyd.

The former Gers striker heaped the praise on Celtic’s defensive partnership, whilst they dealt with wave-after-wave of Rangers attack at the death, as they searched for an equiliser.

“It’s over. It’s finished. There’s no doubt about it,” Boyd told Sky Sports.

“Celtic, on that form, we saw how good they are going forward but we’ve seen another side to them in terms of defending properly.

“I thought the two centre-backs, (Carl) Starfelt and (Cameron) Carter-Vickers, were outstanding.”

Boyd’s conclusion on the Old Firm.

The 38-year-old alluded to Celtic’s defending once more, picking out Starfelt as the Hoops defender who won his individual battles against Rangers.

Boyd maintained it would be “very difficult” for Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s side to catch Celtic with only six games remaining in the domestic campaign.

“There’s sometimes when you look at Celtic and they can be left two-vs-two or one-vs-one but today every single time Rangers got to the byline and tried to put a ball in, Starfelt was there to cut in,” Boyd added.

“It was proper defending from both of them.

“It was going to be very difficult for Rangers to get back into the title race anyway but it’s done for me today.”
