The 45-year-old’s potential appointment came as a surprise to fans with Xabi Alonso then Ruben Amorim the initial front-runners. As well as winning the League slot boasts a Cup triumph during his reign and narrowly missed out on the UEFA Conference League, losing in the final in 2022.
Speaking on TNT Sports, before Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against West Ham, Crouch said: “It's going to be difficult for him to step into Klopp's shoes, I don't envy him.
“The selection process probably centred on his style of play and character.
“Interestingly, a lot of the murmurings are similar to when Klopp came. He plays attacking, heavy metal football. He's a big character, develops players. Very similar,”
He continued: “If someone came in and tried to play men behind the ball, changed the whole philosophy [it might not work].
“What they've done is get someone who plays a similar way with fresh energy and impetus to take them onto the next level.”
Left back Andrew Robertson explained how the side were firmly fixed on giving Klopp a fairytale send off, before kick off.
However, the result leaves Liverpool all but out of the title race. The Reds remain one point behind Manchester City, who have played two games less than Liverpool.
Arsenal lead the League; two points above Liverpool with a game in hand and one above Manchester City having played a game more.
After the draw at the London Stadium Jurgen Klopp cut a deflated figure, he said: “I'm not in the mood to talk about that to be honest or look at that at all," Klopp told TNT.
"We had to win here, we knew that, and we didn't, and now we have a little bit more time between now and the next game. We try to get the boys ready again and we will go again."
