Zidane: Why shouldn’t Paul Pogba come to Real Madrid?

Jack O'Toole

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has asked why Paul Pogba shouldn’t come to the Bernabeu after the France midfielder said that a move to Madrid would be a dream move for him.

Pogba moved to United from Juventus in 2016 and has had a largely turbulent time at Old Trafford but has recently found some spark after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as the club’s manager back in December.

Pogba is contracted with United until the summer of 2021 but he said during the international break that it would be a dream to link up with Zidane in the Spanish capital.

“Like I’ve always said, Real Madrid is a dream for anyone. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Pogba said in a press conference on international duty.

“There is also [Zinedine] Zidane as a coach and it’s a dream for anybody who likes football.

“For now, I’m at Manchester. We don’t know what the future holds. I’m at Manchester and I’m happy.”

The respect is seemingly mutual between Pogba and Zidane with the Madrid boss adding that few players bring as much to the table as Pogba does for United and France.

“I like Pogba a lot,” Zidane told Cadena SER. “It’s nothing new.

“I know him personally. He’s a different kind of player, he brings so much and they are few players who bring as much as he does.

“He’s a midfielder who knows how to defend and how to attack. He knows how to do everything on the pitch.

“He’s not part of my squad, he plays at United and what he’s said about Real Madrid and his desire to come here if one day he gets the chance when he wants to leave United…

“If when he finishes his experience at United he wants to come here why shouldn’t he come to Real Madrid?”
