Gary Neville names the five best players in the Premier League

He didn’t pick Mohamed Salah as one of the top five.

Gary Neville has named his top five Premier League players. But he hasn’t included last season’s player of the year in his choices.

Mohamed Salah was the best player in England last season and one of the best in the world.

In 36 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, he scored 32 goals. His form has dipped slightly during this campaign. But he has still scored five goals in 10 games, a record any forward would be happy with.

However, there is no place for him in Neville’s selections.

Which is fair enough, the Sky Sports pundit watches a lot of football. He also won eight Premier League titles with Manchester United. So, he knows a bit about football and is entitled to his opinion.

Gary opted for Eden Hazard, Harry Kane, David de Gea, Virgil van Dijk and Kevin De Bruyne as his five best Premier League players. They would make a serious five-a-side team.

Hazard is arguably the most talented player in the English top flight. Kane, when on form and at full-fitness, is the division’s most prolific striker. De Bruyne is an incredible footballer.

Van Dijk has been excellent for Liverpool since his big-money move in January. And De Gea has been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League over the last four seasons.

So, it’s difficult to pick too many holes in Neville’s choices, even if N’Golo Kante and Salah surely warranted inclusion.

Gary made the choices on Twitter on Thursday afternoon. The former United defender asked his followers to pose him questions and he answered quite a few of them.

He named the loudest stadiums he played in.

His favourite memory of United, the club he supports and played at across three decades, was the team’s title win in 1993.

He reckons Liverpool front three are slightly stronger than Manchester City’s frontline.

And his favourite kit was the one United wore when they won the Champions League in 1999.

Brazilian Romario was the best striker he played against.

Jamie Carragher also got involved.
