Watch: Mark Cavendish was involved in a controversial crash on the way to winning silver

Homeworld of sport

Mark Cavendish has won silver in the men’s omnium at the Rio Olympics.

However, the British cyclist was involved in a controversial crash with a Korean cyclist that led to two other competitors being wiped-out in the final event of the multi-event contest. Elia Viviani, an Italian track-cyclist, got back on his bike and went on to win the gold. But the collision caused an Australian track cyclist to also crash, and resulted in South Korean Sanghoon Park being taken to hospital. Daily Telegraph journalist, ghost-writer of Alex Ferguson's second autobiography and apparent mind-reader Paul Hayward said Cavendish didn't intend to collide with his opponent. https://twitter.com/_PaulHayward/status/765316335031218176 Many on Twitter called-out Cavendish, who has spent a significant amount of his life on a bike and avoiding crashing into opponents, for the collision: https://twitter.com/EwanMacKenna/status/765297709934927874 https://twitter.com/BBCTomEnglish/status/765297495115202560 https://twitter.com/kazconnell81/status/765307968963375104 https://twitter.com/MarkdavidLawlor/status/765299062698569733 https://twitter.com/trods2906/status/765297438470975489 https://twitter.com/unicoderainbows/status/765292195394052101 https://twitter.com/Digger_forum/status/765323062707359744 Well, almost everyone did... https://twitter.com/BBCSport/status/765297239724023808 A Dutch journalist reportedly had the following exchange with Cavendish following the event. https://twitter.com/thijszonneveld/status/765309515420037121 https://twitter.com/thijszonneveld/status/765309750674350080 https://twitter.com/thijszonneveld/status/765309969197588482 https://twitter.com/thijszonneveld/status/765310105508253696
