The next five days of sport on TV could be the greatest ever

What a week of sport in store.

March is always a great time for the armchair fan and this St Patrick’s week is going to be absolutely epic for sport on TV.

Here’s your guide to the best sport on TV this week.

Wednesday

11am
South Africa v Sri Lanka
4th ODI
Sky Sports Cricket

If you’re sitting around with nothing to do on this particular Wednesday morning, then this might take your fancy. This is a series of five ODI matches with South Africa winning all of the first three. Ease your way into this rollercoaster.

Cheltenham Festival Day 2
Virgin Media One & UTV

Ladies day kicks off at 1:30 with the final race of the day getting underway at 5:30.

Once again, the action in the Championship is not the pick of the crop with all that’s going on in European competitions but its another big one in the second tier of English football. Norwich will look to stay atop the summit of the table amid pressure from title rivals Leeds and Sheffield United while their opponents are trying to stake a claim in the race for the playoffs and could badly do with taking all three points away from Carrow Road.

It’s all to play for in the Allianz Arena tonight with the tie locked at nil-all on aggregate and this could be very entertaining as these are two similar teams with both of them right in the heat of intense title races in their respective domestic leagues.

Champions League last 16

While Liverpool and Bayern is the tie of Wednesday night, Lyon will go into the Camp Nou with one thing on their minds. Upset. Barca’s greatest rivals, Real Madrid, have already fallen victim to a defeat to lesser opposition in this round, Lyon will be out to see that the Catalonian’s suffer the same fate.

You really shouldn’t be up at this hour on a school night but if you can’t get to sleep and are looking for something to do, this is a very interesting prospect across the Atlantic. The reigning NBA champions Warriors head to Houston to take on MVP candidate James Harden and the Western conference 3rd seed Rockets in a potential preview to a a playoff matchup.

Day One from Sawgrass where all of golf’s elite come together for this prestigious event with Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy the pick of the featured groups with Shane Lowry of course looking to continue his amazing form.

Night six of the Premier League takes place in Nottingham with Michael van Gerwen v Gerwyn Price the feature game as both players are on seven points at the top of the table.

More early hour basketball action from the States as, this time, Lebron James and the struggling Lakers travel up north of the border to Toronto where they face the Raptors who have the second-best record in the Eastern Conference.

The weekend is going to be absolutely laden with sport and it all kicks off Friday morning in Sawgrass with the second round of the Players Championship where Webb Simpson will look to defend his title.

The final day a Cheltenham and it’s the big one it has the big event, the Gold Cup while the festivals top jockey and trainer will be revealed after the final race. Gold Cup at 3.30pm.

Ireland have the Six Nations title won already but this is by no means a dead rubber as Noel McNamara’s side head to go Parc Eirias needing a win to claim both the Grand Slam and the Triple Crown.

What a night for Gaelic football. Four of the best teams in the country play and, in Croke Park, Tyrone will look to avenge their All-Ireland final defeat to the Dubs last August.

This should be a clinker. The Kingdom has won five from five and will relish a visit from rivals Mayo who started unbeaten themselves before back to back Saturday night losses to Dublin and Galway respectively.

An epic day of sport and this isn’t exactly a bad way to finish it. Wolves have had a great season on their return to the Premier League and they will look forward to welcoming Man United to Molyneaux as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to bounce back after their first league defeat under the caretaker boss. Featuring the flying form of Matt Doherty.

The final day from Sawgrass as the winner of the 2019 Players Championship will be decided.

Celtic are now eight points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership but they will be determined to not take the foot off the gas and now under caretaker boss Neil Lennon, they travel to Dens Park to take on a Dundee side who are caught in a relegation battle and will be desperate for a win.

A dead rubber game really but the Irish women have produced some magic tries in this campaign and, with Claire Molloy and Ciara Griffin back on top form, it’s worth a watch in the final clash of the Six Nations.

This is it. The pinnacle of club GAA. Four storied clubs looking for All-Ireland glory and beginning with the hurlers. Ballyhale have won the most national senior titles with six while their opponents have only won one.

It’s not the most exciting game on Sunday afternoon but after all, it’s the quarter-final of the FA Cup and one of these teams will progress to Wembley. Plus, Shane Duffy.

Every game matters now as we head down the final Premier League stretch. Both of these games are massive, with Liverpool needing a win to go back top of the table before City play their game in hand at least while Fulham badly need a win in their fight for survival.
