Irish surfer Glenn Hall reveals he received death threats after beating world champion

Brazilian surfing fans are no joke

It looks like Conor McGregor isn’t the only Irishman who Brazilian sports fans hold contempt for.

Irish surfer Glenn Hall revealed that he received numerous threats from Brazilian surfing fans on his Instagram account after he sent Gabriel Medina crashing out of the Quiksilver Pro at the weekend.

Hall, who is from New South Wales and holds an Irish passport, said that he is considering getting extra security when he travels to Brazil in May for the Rio Pro competition.

They said things like ‘watch your back when you come to Brazil’ and ‘don’t come here’ just gutless threats.

I suppose I will look into security.

Considering Brazil is a dangerous country it is something to worry about.

The abuse was supposedly sparked by an interview Medina gave after being knocked out of the tournament by the Hall. He expressed his anger at being called out for interference during the contest which ultimately led to him losing. Warning: NSFW

Medina has since tried to calm down the situation on his own instagram account after hearing the about the threats Hall received.
