Irish Olympic finalist wins half marathon days after returning home from Rio

That is just showing off

Where do these people find the energy?

Imagine for a moment you rowed your way into an Olympic final and then, 24 hours later, finished sixth in that final. You process the disappointment, try and enjoy the Rio experience and fly home to Ireland.

What would you choose to do with your first weekend home?

Binge on ‘Stranger Things’ or some other Netflix goodness? Pints? Sleep for 72 hours? Forget that training diet with Chinese takeaways, chocolate and spice bags (in that order)?

If you answered yes, yes, yes and yes then we may have discovered why you are not an Olympian.

Alternatively, if you answered, “Half marathon, obviously. Want to stretch the old legs after that transatlantic flight” then maybe you too can one day be an Olympian like Sinéad Jennings (above, right, pictured with Claire Lambe).

The Donegal native, who reached the final of the lightweight double sculls alongside Lambe, celebrated her homecoming by winning the Donegal half marathon in a time of one hour 23 minutes and 40 seconds, according to Donegal Sports Hub.

All after last week “pulling like dogs” for 4,000 metres in the space of 24 hours. Exhausting to even think about it.
