The Russian took out his frustrations

Andy Murray advanced to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, and opponent Gregor Dimitrov wasn’t one bit happy about it.

The Scot claimed a four-set victory over the Bulgarian in the fourth round in Melbourne today, but Dimitrov was left furious after letting slip a 5-2 lead in the fourth set, and took his anger out on his racquet, smashing it into the ground after giving Murray the decisive break of serve.

Dimitrov’s fit of pique earned the approval of former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic, who was working for the BBC.

Murray faces home favourite Nick Kyrgios in the last eight after the Aussie teenager won a five-set marathon against Andreas Seppi. The Italian conqueror of Roger Federer raced into a two-set lead but Kyrgios fought back to win 8-6 in the fifth.

Third seed Rafael Nadal is also through to the last eight where he will take on world No.7 Tomas Berdych after both men had routine straight sets wins.

On the women’s side of the draw, Maria Sharapova and Eugenie Bouchard are set for an eagerly-awaited quarter-final clash. The Russian dropped just three games to Shuai Peng of China, while Bouchard was taken the distance by Irina-Camelia Begu.
