Liverpool to 'pay bonus' to Wolves if they beat them and win Premier League

Jota signed for Liverpool back in 2020

Liverpool will reportedly have to make a bonus payment to Wolves as part of the Diogo Jota transfer if they win the Premier League title at the weekend.

Jota arrived at Anfield from Wolves in a deal worth up to £45million back in 2020, but it is thought that the Midlands outfit received just £4m up front, with the rest of the fee relying on bonus payments and instalments.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Liverpool has paid a further £13m to Wolves in instalments so far and another payment will be due if Jota wins his first league title on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's side will be crowned Premier League champions if they beat Bruno Lage's side and rivals Manchester City fail to overcome Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

The report adds that Wolves - who currently sit in eight position in the league table - will receive an extra £2.2m in prize money if they maintain their current position.

However, they face competition from Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion, who sit two and three points adrift of the top-eight respectively.

Klopp insists Gerrard will take it '100% serious'

Pep Guardiola's men go into their game against Villa knowing that a win will secure them the league title for the second year running, but Klopp admitted that Gerrard will likely be keen to stop them from doing so.

"I can only understand these situations by thinking of myself in that role," said the Reds boss.

"If I could play a game that would help Dortmund, that would help Mainz, it would mean for me an extra motivation.

"That's how it is. But I don't play, and Stevie doesn't play. It's a shame - much more a shame that Stevie isn't playing than I'm not playing!

"We are all human beings to have these kind of things. Stevie will take it 100% serious I'm absolutely sure, without me calling him. I don't have to. Probably the rest of the club did it already, but I didn't!"
