A great way to become more active.

Falling into a bad routine can happen very easily, especially when you live or work in the city. Once you get home from a long day, it’s a lot easier to stick on the Champions League than it is to head to training yourself.

Even if you used to play a lot of sports and have simply fallen off the wagon, or you’re just looking to try something new, the first ever  Dublin Sportsfest looks set to be a great way to become more involved. A week-long event starting on Sunday, 23 September, clubs from all sports codes will be hosting dozens of events all over Dublin.

From GAA teams, cycling and rugby clubs, there will be something for everyone to get involved with.

What to expect

Expect to find coaching sessions, football tournaments, and club showcases throughout the week. It’s a great chance to even talk to some of the different club members about what you can get involved in around your area.

There is also set to be a girls’ 5-a-side tournament, an open-air Zumba class, and an army-style team obstacle course throughout the week. While many of the events are available on a first come, first served basis, there are others that require you to register in advance.

The event is all part of a bigger plan to try and improve the number of people that are getting involved in sports, as well as staying fit in general. The European Week of Sport is also taking place around the same time.

Dublin city has no shortage of great facilities for residents to keep themselves active; from swimming pools and gyms to open-air parks that are perfect for a jog or a cycle. Getting more people to use them on a regular basis is what Sportsfest is all about.

Whether or not joining a sports team is something that has been on your mind, the Sportsfest is a great opportunity to find out what you could be missing out on.

To find out more about this event or what else is in the pipeline, head to their Twitter and Facebook. Dublin Sportsfest is organised in association with Dublin City Council, as well as Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership.
