Waterford hurler performs the most graceful, instinctive pick up in quarter final

Lucky they play a bit of football down in Cappoquin.

It's hard to explain how, it's hard to explain why, but sometimes in games you're just playing off instinct and when you're playing off instinct you're usually playing well. Killian O'Sullivan's instinct took over down in Waterford recently. Cappoquin were out against Modeligo in the county intermediate quarter final and the 2014 winners booked their place in the last four with a couple of points to spare. They ran out 0-23 to 3-10 winners of their rivals and now they're preparing for a semi-final against Ballysaggart this Sunday evening. Ten white flags from Shane O'Rourke pointed the way for Cappoquin, but it was the one from Aaron O'Sullivan that really turned heads. A Cappy midfielder sent an inviting ball into the full forward line for their number 14, Killian O'Sullivan to attack. O'Sullivan was out in front of his Modeligo marker but a sturdy shoulder from his man sent him wheeling away from the sliotar. He lunged back towards it and flicked his hurl in the sliotar's direction to no avail. After not even putting a grain on the sliotar first time around most lads would have been spent but O'Sullivan came back for more. The Modeligo back was up too tight on his man, and in a most instinctive act, O'Sullivan flicked a boot at the ball like Brian Fenton would in Croke Park and the sliotar obeyed him, hopping up gracefully into his stride. He was away then and as the Modeligo number three fell to his knees, O'Sullivan gave a Brick flick to his brother Aaron who tapped it over the bar. That was some way to get himself out of trouble and it's hardly surprising that he plays a bit of football for his club as well. The other semi-final will see Tadhg De Búrca's Clashmore Kinsalebeg take on Seamus Prendergast's Ardmore.
