Crossmaglen make statement of intent in Armagh whilst Slaughtneil draw in Derry

All-Ireland finalists, Slaughtneil were held to a draw by a battling Eoghan Rua side in their Derry SFC quarter final at the weekend.

In what was a cracking contest from start to finish, the holders were dealt an early scare as they trailed 0-6 to 0-1 after 11 minutes before a late rally saw them lead at half-time 0-8 to 0-7. After the break, the inspirational Chrissy McKaigue put Slaughtneil two ahead, and it looked like the champions - who are chasing five John McLaughlin cups in a row - would get over the line. That was until a Liam McGoldrick goal levelled things up with ten minutes remaining. The Ulster champions looked to have stumbled to a one point win as the game edged to a close. That was until a last gasp free from Richard Carey ensured the two sides will meet again on Wednesday night. Elsewhere in Derry, Ballinascreen booked their place in the semi finals after a one point win over Greenlough, whilst Glen had a fantastic breakthrough win over former kingpins Ballinderry, that game ended 1-15 to 0-17. Loup and Lavey finshed all square at 1-08 to 2-05 and the pair will meet again on Thursday to do battle once more. There was plethora of action in the province this weekend, but perhaps the most intriguing tie was in Armagh where champions, Armagh Harps took on the once dominant Crossmaglen Rangers. Cross' haven't won the Gerry Fagan cup in three seasons now and were in fine form as they swept aside the holders with relative ease.
