Tomás Ó Sé doesn’t spare Mayo as Dublin derail the hype train

The Kerry legend didn't hold any punches when analysing the Mayo performance.

Despite a first-half scare, Dessie Farrell's Dublin side cantered to a 2-17 to 0-11 victory over Mayo in Sunday's All-Ireland Quarter Final. In the weekend's footballing finale, the spectacle failed to live up to its billing, with the game dead and buried five minutes into the second half. Heading down the Croke Park tunnel after the opening 35, the Dubs found themselves just one point ahead of their now-familiar foes. However, just five minutes after the interval, Mayo found themselves seven points down and staring down the barrel of yet another disappointing Championship exit. Inspired by Ballyboden forward Colm Basquel, the Dubs went on to stroll to an eventual 12-point win, which saw them secure a semi-final berth against Monaghan. Tomás Ó Sé critical of perception around Mayo:

The latest in a spate of poor results for this Mayo side, having already lost to Roscommon in Connacht and to Cork in the round-robins, Kerry legend Tomás Ó Sé was heavily critical of their season. Speaking on RTE's post-match analysis, the five-time All-Ireland winner said that;

"Dublin have seven attacks, seven shots, six scores (to start the second half), boom, game over. Mayo couldn't even get their hands on the ball... "You look at Mayo. They got rattled in Connacht after a brilliant, brilliant start to the season, they got rattled by Cork, and this was third one. "You look back, we were building them up. We always do, we build them up... "We all thought Mayo were the better team in the first half, but they still went in a point down. The whole game was the first ten minutes of the second half".

Mayo to their credit were benevolent in defeat, with coach Kevin McStay admitting that Dublin were the better team on the day, before adding that his side are still a work in progress. Related articles:
