Tipperary and Cork to play special 1916 Munster final this weekend

Cork and Tipperary in anything is always going to be a must-see game.

The two rivals are neighbours, and when you talk about Munster hurling, they are top of the standings in terms of success in almost every age group. So hurling fans are set for a treat this Sunday on Leeside, as a special exhibition game, commemorating the 1916 Munster final between both sides, will be staged in the 'real capital'. The game is between a Tipperary XV and a Cork XV, with the respective sides managed by Liam Sheedy and Jimmy-Barry Murphy. The teams will wear traditional 1916 style-jerseys while the hurls will be somewhat different to what modern day GAA fans will be used to.   The game takes place at the Mardyke at 3pm and afterwards in Rearden's Bar in the city, there will be a special memorial held for former Kerry great John Egan hosted by Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh. It looks like being a great day, but we feel some sympathy for whoever has to ref it if everybody has to wear flat-caps, as was the style 100 years ago. 100 years ago Tipperary took home the title with a  5-0 to 1-2 success over the Rebels, with fans no doubt hoping for a bit more action on the scoreboard this weekend.
