Déjà vu.

Different season, same problems. But it's fair to say though that August 28 of 2011 changed the landscape of Gaelic Football. Jim McGuinness had just masterminded Donegal's first Ulster title in 19 years and he brought Dublin unprecedentedly to their knees in the All-Ireland semi-final. It deserved respect and admiration even but, in the chaotic, knee-jerk, frenzy world that is the GAA, it got very little of that. Instead, it just got lambasted. The north-west outfit played 14 men behind the ball at all times. They were perfectly within their rights to do that but... f**king puke football. The fallout from a defensive stand-off at Croke Park was historic and affected football the island over as a result of the shockwaves. Dublin won in the end 0-8 to 0-6 and one man was happy with his day's work. https://twitter.com/bernardbrogan/status/107887016418623488 The rest weren't happy at all. It was Donegal's fault. https://twitter.com/JohnRogersShow/status/107959424966074368 It was Dublin's fault. https://twitter.com/bbmackk/status/107831154702417920 It's a free country. https://twitter.com/TedLeddy/status/107953152891961345 Justice for Diarmuid Connolly (again). https://twitter.com/lisamxOx/status/107945789325713408 The death of Gaelic Football. https://twitter.com/apdoyle/status/107847815685865472 The birth of Murder Ball. https://twitter.com/darachociardha/status/107941569193185280 Puke football, puke football, puke football. https://twitter.com/fiannadownfall/status/107917569029185536 https://twitter.com/markkeegan74/status/107916083117297664 https://twitter.com/Eamo71/status/107847900771524608 Good God, people are even quoting Pat Spillane. https://twitter.com/JayoBoland/status/107883725458644996 The ethics argument rumbles. https://twitter.com/Niamhmcal/status/107938256498331648 Won't someone think of the kick pass! https://twitter.com/rohealy1/status/107932555772309504 The good, old days. https://twitter.com/DarrenMCA_1/status/107896679302299648 Well done United. https://twitter.com/John_Mc_Mahon/status/107921999317307392 8-2, it was a big result. https://twitter.com/B_Mento_91/status/107861763952877568 The death of football Arsenal. https://twitter.com/AikaK/status/107858019332788224 One's from Donegal and the other's a hurling team. https://twitter.com/GalwayColm/status/107919681058385921 My sport is better than yours. https://twitter.com/seanieoh/status/107899771963973633 Everyone can f**k off. https://twitter.com/AlisonMurray_/status/107915785044901888 Because Donegal fans were getting sick of that road down to Croke Park. https://twitter.com/GerOBrien2/status/107915283456475136 Not even Seamus Coleman was spared. https://twitter.com/ev_mc/status/107904947303100417 He was still proud. https://twitter.com/seamiecoleman23/status/107861129765715968 This is a man's game. https://twitter.com/gaviiins/status/107851257460424704 It's only a f**king system! https://twitter.com/chrismcnulty86/status/107959558328160256 Change the rules. https://twitter.com/Bogball_stick/status/107949734278344706 Change the rules. https://twitter.com/whelanjim/status/107894146278232064 Change the rules. https://twitter.com/TonyFearon/status/107945314496946177 Change the rules. https://twitter.com/dublinlawyers/status/107922238568804352 Okay... see ye next year. https://twitter.com/ronanward/status/107849675817758720 Listen to Michael Murphy chat with Colm Parkinson on The GAA Hour. Subscribe here on iTunes https://soundcloud.com/sportsjoe-gaa-hour/michael-murphy-on-enjoying-the-game-duffys-flawed-proposal
