Starting an in-form forward instead of an out-of-form forward makes sense.

It is not as if Jim Gavin is opposed to a last-minute change. James McCarthy to start against Donegal, anyone? Before the Dublin manager Friday named an unchanged side for tonight's replay against Mayo, many were predicting Paddy Andrews would start. The St Brigid's forward was excellent in the drawn game when he came in to replace the black-carded McCarthy, scoring two points and troubling the Mayo defence with his clever movement and ball carrying. Many thought Kevin McManamon would be reprising his 'super sub' role after making way for Andrews, but SportsJOE understands it is a four-time All-Star who is set to lose his place. https://twitter.com/Woolberto/status/782190335548096513 Paul Flynn has not enjoyed the best of seasons. One of the most influential wing-forwards of the decade, Dublin's change to a more gradual build-up and the abandonment of the long kick-out strategy that saw the Fingallians man get on so much ball in years past has seen him become a peripheral figure. There was some debate that both Flynn and former Footballer of the Year Bernard Brogan could pay the price for indifferent form, but it looks now that it is Flynn alone.

Will it be Mayo (or the Dubs) 4 Sam? Wooly, Paul Galvin and Conán Doherty preview Saturday’s All-Ireland final replay.

Galway boss heaps praise on Dubs fans after loss for Paul Clancy tribute

Classy from both parties. Ahead of their All-Ireland quarter-final loss to Dublin today, the Galway footballers paid tribute to the late Paul Clancy. The Moycullen man, 49, passed away during the week after a battle with cancer. He was a member of the great Galway side that won All-Ireland titles in 1998 and 2001, alongside […]

Sensational skill! To the surprise of few, Kobe McDonald took to Croke Park like a duck to water in Mayo’s All-Ireland quarter-final win over Cork. The AFL-bound teenager scored within 30 seconds of his Croker debut, and continued to dazzle with an outrageous outside-of-the-foot two pointer. In the end, the Crossmolina man finished with 0-04, […]

It was some game! Now that the dust has settled it is a good opportunity to discuss two massive penalty calls at the end of Dublin v Galway, which went a long way to deciding the game. The Tribesmen had a six-point lead over the Sky Blues in the second half, but this was quickly […]
