In the grand scheme of things, these games can wait.

After the tragedies of Ophelia last week when three lives were taken and millions of euro worth of damage caused, games of football and hurling are put into stark perspective. So championship can hold off for a bit in the quest for safety first. Storm Brian hit the coasts of Ireland on Saturday morning with the Atlantic feeling the effects of it first. Huge swirling winds consumed Galway, Clare and Limerick as the country was rocked once more by adverse weather conditions. https://twitter.com/MetEireann/status/921635736193060864 There was spot flooding in Limerick and Galways and the Cliffs of Moher in Clare were closed for the day as the storm took hold of the west. More here. In the GAA world, games were being called off at the last minute left, right and centre. Galway The All-Ireland champions were set for three senior hurling club championship quarter-final games on Saturday.
  • Cappataggle v Sarsfields
  • Padraig Pearses v Mullagh
  • Gort Inse Guaire v Killimordaly
All fixtures have been postponed and a decision will be made in the morning if the games can be played on Sunday so players must wait and be prepared just in case. Every match scheduled for Saturday has been called off, including intermediate and junior championship clashes as well as all underage fixtures. Leinster The following provincial matches have all been postponed so far:
  • Navan O'Mahony's v John Lockes (JHC)
  • Erin's Isle v Trumera (JHC)
  • Father Dalton's v Ballinamere (JHC)
  • Erin Rovers v Ballymore Eustace (JFC)
  • Hollywood v Emo (IFC)
