Rugby postponed while GAA fixtures are set to go ahead at this stage

Munster and Ulster Rugby have both had their respective PRO14 games with Edinburgh and Glasgow postponed as a result of Storm Emma.

Munster were supposed to travel to the Scottish capital to take on Ediburgh while Ulster were scheduled to welcome Glasgow to Belfast, however, both games have been postponed due to adverse weather. A statement on the Munster Rugby website read: "An early decision was made after consultation among PRO14 Rugby, Edinburgh and Munster due to severe weather warnings that remain in place across the UK and Ireland. "Similar to the issues that caused the postponement of Ulster Rugby v Glasgow Warriors, threats to travel and the potential of severe weather on the day of the game raised concerns to the health and safety of supporters, match officials, players and staff from both clubs which always paramount in such situations. "The severe weather currently being experienced in the UK and Ireland combined to the further inclement conditions forecast for tomorrow night, means that those travelling to BT Murrayfield would likely be exposed to hazardous conditions which raises welfare concerns." Meanwhile, at the time of writing, this weekend's Allianz League fixtures look set to go ahead. The GAA released a statement on Tuesday claiming that they had a plan in place to reschedule games should this weekend's slate of matches be deemed unplayable. A GAA statement read: "The GAA can confirm that a fixtures plan is being put in place to cater for any potential negative impact caused by the adverse weather on the Allianz Leagues. "If required, the details of this contingency plan will be announced later in the week." This weekend will see the final round of matches in Division 1A and Division 1B of the National Hurling League which will decide the quarter-final matchups. The hurling quarter-finals are set for next Sunday, March 11th, before the semi-finals will be played on March 18th with the final set for a week later on Saturday March 24th, leaving very little room for rescheduling. The weekend of March 10th/11th is free to reschedule football games before the club exclusive games are set to commence in April. The GAA will likely wait until Friday before making a call on whether to cancel games or not.
