Round of League fixtures may never take place in most GAA solution to GAA problem

A GAA solution to a GAA problem.

They dug their own hole and now they're they're trying to climb back out of it. Last weekend was a disaster for the GAA. After leaving themselves with absolutely no wiggle room, an icy blast meant that was exactly what would be needed. Everything was up in the air bar the snow as games fell by the wayside due to unplayable pitches all over the country. With two Hurling League quarter finals down, club championships which were set to begin in the first weekend of April became endangered. Six football games also couldn't go ahead as the GAA's grand fixture plan left them with egg on the faces of the fixture compilers. With the final round of football fixtures set to go ahead as planned this weekend, the six clashes that went uncontested last time out may indeed never be played, according to the latest developments from the association. These are the games that we may never see. They will only be played if they are required to decide the promotion and relegation issues in the respective divisions.

• Louth v Meath, Division 2 Round 6
• Laois v Antrim, Division 4 Round 5
• Waterford v Leitrim, Division 4 Round 6
• Wicklow v Limerick, Division 4 Round 6

In fairness, it seems like a logical decision by the GAA. Most of these counties have club fixtures set for April and another weekend taken up by a pointless fixture would be senseless and pointless. At the same time, it really does show up their shoddy fixture planning better than anything else ever could. That means the deciders could yet go ahead on easter weekend. Meanwhile, the replay of the All-Ireland club hurling final between Cuala and Na Piarsaigh will take place this Sunday in Portlaoise at 5.30.
