REPORT: Jack McCaffrey drops bombshell on Dublin management ahead of championship

To lose one All Star is manageable, but to lose two could be seen as devastating.

Jim Gavin is already planning for 2016 without Rory O’Carroll who is heading to New Zealand shortly. And this morning, it’s being reported that Jack McCaffrey may also be absent for a number of months this summer. The 2015 Footballer of the Year is believed to be considering spending some time abroad for work, which could rule him out of the early part of Dublin’s Leinster and All-Ireland title defences. The recent UCD Sigerson Cup winner has been a key part of Dublin’s success over the last number of years, and his runs from the half-back line have been a major part of the county's defensive and offensive efforts in their recent All-Ireland and Allianz Football league wins. However, The Herald is today reporting that the medical student may opt to take some time out of the panel, which would be a hammer blow to Dublin's hopes of retaining Sam Maguire for the first time since 1976/77. McCaffrey has featured for Dublin in this year’s league, where he played a substitute's role in the wins over Kerry and Mayo, but he missed last week's win over Monaghan due to a hamstring injury.
