Islands clash on mainland for Junior provincial title
In what was surely be the most unique GAA game to go ahead this weekend two west of Ireland islands will clash in the AIB Connacht junior football championship final in Tuam on Sunday.
The Aran Islands side draw their players from the three islands out in the Atlantic, Inis Mor, Inis Oirr and Inis Meain and face a huge struggle to try and get players together for training as they need to get a ferry often to make it to Inis Mor.
Achill are somewhat better off-they at least have a bridge that spans Achill Sound that helps them get to the pitch on the mainland at Polranny.
The GAA have produced a really special image for the front of the match programme that hints at the difficulties facing both sides in trying to maintain their proud history of GAA.
