What a week for Pádraic Maher.

The 27-year-old was named Tipperary captain for 2017 earlier this week and also helped Templemore Garda College to a win over IT Tralee. That victory secured some more silverware for Maher, to go with his second Liam MacCarthy triumph back in September. https://twitter.com/ITTraleeGAAClub/status/804015539727302657 Maher is already a well marked man when he plays - for college, club or county - but his recent captaincy appointment will see him come in for even more attention. That certainly seemed to be the case, on Tuesday, when he mixed it against the Tralee lads. For some, it was a special moment to simply mark the two-time All-Ireland winner. For others, it was a chance to test their physical mettle. We were contacted by avid hurling fan Sorcha Ní Caoimh, who claimed Maher needed treatment after a particularly robust challenge from the Tralee No.13. From the picture, below, it seems as if Maher was in a bad way after copping a shoulder to his ribs. There is no video of the incident, unfortunately, but it looks as if Maher was in some discomfort.
