The hope in the county is that on the back of their Connacht semi-final loss to Roscommon, that they would be able to build a head of steam through the qualifiers after beating Down, but the loss of O'Connor, a highly versatile performer, is a huge one.
With an eye veering towards potential replacements, Donal Vaughan is the first that springs to mind. The Castlebar Mitchels club man has missed all of the championship so far but he is said to be nearing a return.
Stephen Coen and weekend debutante Mikey Murray come into the mix while the option of relocating Lee Keegan is also there.

"The Mayo Senior squad are continuing their preparations for Saturday's qualifier game with Armagh in Elverys's MacHale Park. The latest injury news on the squad is as follows: Donal Vaughan, Seamus O'Shea, James Carr & Ger Cafferkey all participated fully in last night's session following recent injuries and all are in contention for selection this weekend. Diarmuid O'Connor suffered a wrist injury in training last night. He was immediately assessed by our medical team & will undergo further examination later this week when the full extend of the injury will be confirmed."
