JP McManus to donate €1 million to every GAA county board

The Limerick native has announced a generous donation to Gaelic Games across the country.

One of Ireland's wealthiest businessmen JP McManus is set to donate a staggering €1 million to every single county in Ireland. The money will be used to invest in hurling, camogie, and Gaelic football. Counties have yet to receive official word of the news, but it's understood an announcement is imminent. County board officials and the upper echelon of the GAA have already been informed of McManus' act of generosity. [caption id="attachment_296173" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Owner J. P. McManus money to be spent equally across male and female games

The donation is expected to arrive at each county's GAA board in the coming days, and will then be distributed to clubs across all codes by the end of January. It's believed Limerick GAA have already received their €1 million. Limerick GAA chairperson Seamus McNamara expressed his gratitude to McManus in a public statement:

"We are delighted with the news today from the JP & Noreen McManus and family and their exceptionally generous donation. The clubs are the bedrock of the GAA and this will help in a time when costs are increasing for clubs to manage their funds. We are exceptionally grateful to JP, Noreen & all the Mc Manus family for this fantastic donation."

Not the first time JP McManus has put his hands in his pocket

It's not the first time JP McManus has opted to splash the cash on the development of Gaelic Games. He did a similar country-wide donation of €100,000 to each county board back in 2018 - you can read more about that here. One spokesperson for the GAA told RTÉ at the time that the donation was "unprecedented" and an "incredible gesture."
