Mayo board meets with Stephen Rochford to discuss new management team

Officers of the Mayo county board were authorised to meet with senior men's football manager Stephen Rochford and his management team on their structures and plans for the upcoming 2019 season.
Mayo were dumped from this year's All-Ireland championship during the qualifying stages and Rochford has since moved to bring in former Mayo captain Peter Ford and Shane Conway (who are both currently working together as joint managers of the Breaffy senior team) into his backroom team. It is understood that Ford and Conway will join the panel as selectors if the officers ratify their candidacy at a meeting of the County Board next week. The Breaffy managers will join selector Joe Kernan on the panel as Mayo look to move on from the recent departures of coach Donie Buckley, goalkeeping coach Peter Burke and selector Tony McEntee from their senior county panel. https://twitter.com/MayoGAA/status/1033786292448964608 Rochford told RTE Sport following Mayo's exit from the championship that he didn't want anyone reading into his future, although, a meeting over the merits of his prospective management team would suggest that he could be set to stay on in charge of the team."We have two years left on our term so I don't want anyone reading into that either way," he said. "It's just a case of reflection which would happen if you went to the last Sunday in the competition as well. "That would be the case no matter when you go out in the Championship - it isn't necessarily a knee-jerk reaction to going out in round three."
